As a Fish and Wildlife Biologist (Natural Resources Planner) your duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
Identify Refuge resources of concern and develop population and habitat objectives for those resources Develop and review Comprehensive Conservation Plans, Habitat Management Plans, Inventory and Monitoring Plans, NEPA documents, and other agency compliance and planning documents Work with Refuge staff and outside experts to develop Refuge planning documents Provide technical support to the Refuge Planning team in the areas of GIS applications, mapping, and other databases Work with GIS specialists and managers to develop databases and apply data analysis as a decision-making tool in the planning process Advise on proper collection, input, retrieval, manipulation, analysis, and output of geo-referenced data Develop clear and complete written documents understandable by the general public and effective for refuge manager and staff implementation Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement may be used to qualify. Basic Education Requirement In order to meet the Basic Education Requirement you must possess one of the following:
A. I have completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or discipline related to fish and wildlife biology. (You must submit a copy of your college transcripts to support educational claims). B. I have a combination of education and experience that consisted of courses equivalent to a major (24 semester hours or the number of units your school considers a major) in fields such as those shown in response A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and must be comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major in the appropriate field. Minimum Qualifications In addition to meeting the Basic Education Requirements above, in order to qualify, you must possess one of the following:
A. I have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Such experience may include:
Develop, coordinate, and review plans that affect fish and wildlife and their habitat conditions including, but not limited to, wetland management, water quantity/quality, timber/forestry, or grassland management and/or restoration; gather, organize, and interpret biological, ecological, environmental contaminants, pathological, hydrologic or other pertinent information to ensure management plans are current and scientifically sound; provide technical support, determine data needs, locate sources of information, and interpret data from a variety of sources; use GIS systems, satellite imagery, global positioning systems, and aerial photography to collect scientific data; write reports based on collected data and present findings. B. I have successfully completed two full years of graduate level education from an accredited college or university in a field directly related to the position (You must submit a copy of your college transcripts to support educational claims). C. I have a combination of specialized experience and more than one year of graduate education (as described above) that, when computed as percentages of their respective requirements, equals at least 100% when combined. Only graduate education beyond the 1st full year (18 semesters) is creditable using this method (You must submit a copy of your college transcripts to support educational claims). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
