Public Affairs Specialist

As a Public Affairs Specialist the incumbent develops and implements communication strategies targeting both internal and external audiences to advance priority conservation work. These strategies often support coordinated national communication campaigns and outreach to a variety of stakeholders, including members of Congress and the news media. This position provides public affairs support for a national program that focuses on research and conservation efforts to address emerging wildlife disease, including the response to white-nose syndrome, a significant challenge for bat conservation in North America. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Work with a wide range of partner agencies and organizations to support local, regional and national conservation goals through coordinated communications and community engagement strategies. Lead working groups of diverse partners to identify and address high priority communication needs at a national scale. Lead media relations for specific beat area(s), including preparing and releasing news releases, proactively pitching stories to reporters, and coordinating news announcements with numerous other agencies and conservation partners. Additionally, coordinate with these entities, and within the agency, to respond to media inquiries at the local, regional, and national scale. Write and edit a wide variety of content for media releases, feature stories, scripts, digital media posts, and other products. Lead content development for specific websites. Conduct research, including interviews of subject matter experts, for stories, website and social media content, and other purposes. Coach and assist subject matter experts on responses to media inquiries, and support presentations, speaking engagements, and professional workshops. In order to qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must meet the minimum qualification(s) of the position in one of the following ways:
Possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service, that demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled. Qualifying experience includes:
synthesizing and communicating complex natural resource science information to non-technical audiences; interviewing subject matter experts for written stories; coaching subject matter experts on media interview techniques; and leading teams that coordinating with various stakeholders, including the news media, to communicate about priority conservation efforts; OR Possess a Ph. D or equivalent doctoral degree or have successfully completed 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work; OR Possess a combination of education and experience listed above when combined equals 100% of the qualification requirement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
