Public Affairs Specialist

As a Public Affairs Specialist the incumbent may perform, but is not limited to, the following duties:
Participate as part of regional communications team, leads the development and implementation of communication strategies targeted at both internal and external audiences to advance priority natural resource conservation programs. These strategies often relate to complex topics or controversial matters, are regionally and/or nationally significant, and are often intended to reach a variety of influential stakeholders. Lead media relations for natural resource conservation programs, including preparing and releasing news releases, pitching stories to reporters, coordinating news announcements with numerous other agencies and organizations, planning media events, and responding to media inquiries at the local, regional, and national scale. Serves as spokesperson, and also coaches subject matter experts for media interviews . Lead and support communication campaigns and projects for the Service, often engaging a wide range of partner agencies and organizations, to further local, regional and national conservation goals. Produce written and multimedia content for media releases, feature stories, websites, scripts, digital media posts, and a variety of other products. Conducts research, including interviews of subject matter experts, to support strategic storytelling. Effectively communicates about complex scientific topics in an understandable non-technical way. Only experience and education obtained by 09/16/2019 will be considered. In order to qualify for this position at the GS-12 level you must meet the following qualification(s):
A) Possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service, performing the following duties:
1) Developing and implementing communications strategies using best practices in the public affairs profession to demonstrate the value and relevance of a public agency to existing, as well as new, audiences to inspire people to care and take action to support its mission; 2) Cultivating relationships with influential media, including serving as a spokesperson, responding to inquiries, and successfully placing stories in significant media outlets through news releases and proactive pitching; 3) Experience in effectively leading project teams and managing projects (including establishing goals, objectives, and deadlines) and overseeing and reviewing the work of others to successfully plan and implement communications strategies. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
